Hannah Olson is a Senior Research Scientist at the Guttmacher Institute, which she joined in 2023. Her research focuses on contraceptive access and sociopolitical factors that facilitate or restrict access to health-related resources. Throughout her career, Dr. Olson has contributed to research and programs focused on social determinants of health, racism, maternal and newborn health, family planning, sexual and reproductive health, and reproductive justice, both in the United States and in several low- and middle-income countries. She was a key member of the team that launched and led Performance Monitoring for Action (formerly PMA2020) and brings expertise in survey methodology as well as demographic and statistical methods to her work at the Institute.
Dr. Olson received her PhD in demography from the University of Pennsylvania; her MSPH in reproductive, perinatal, and women’s health from Johns Hopkins University; and her BA in anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin.
