Anti-abortion lawmakers are proposing to exclude Planned Parenthood health centers from public funding streams, including Medicaid, claiming that federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) could step in to absorb Planned Parenthood patients.
However, new Guttmacher Institute research shows that it is unrealistic to expect FQHCs to serve the patients who currently rely on Planned Parenthood for high-quality contraceptive care. Health care for millions of people would be at imminent risk if Planned Parenthood were to be excluded from public funding.
