Position summary
The Fielding Lead will work with a substantial degree of independence under the direction of a data scientist or other senior research staffer and will perform a variety of complex management tasks related to data collection from facilities providing abortion care in the United States. The Fielding Lead will work with a project team, coordinate and oversee the daily tasks of research assistants and facilitate all activities related to the collection of data for the Monthly Abortion Provision Study, an ongoing research project producing timely data on the landscape of abortion care in the US. This will involve working with the project’s principal investigator in implementing data collection protocols, coordinating and supervising a team of four to five research assistants in recruiting participants and working closely with the project team to develop ways to lessen the reporting burden for participating facilities and providers. Additional tasks include onboarding new fielding staff and developing training materials, some direct outreach to abortion providing facilities and key study partners, and, with the broader study team, monitoring the field to identify new abortion providing facilities or modes of care. The Fielding Lead will have experience collecting or managing data from health care facilities providing sexual and reproductive health care services in the United States and extensive knowledge of the sexual and reproductive health field.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise recruitment activities, data collection, and follow-up (for incomplete surveys or unclear/inconsistent responses) among a team of research assistants.
- Train research assistants on recruitment and data collection procedures; develop and maintain training documentation and materials.
- Become proficient in use of a database as both a tracking and data management tool, and train research assistants in its proper use.
- Meet with fielding staff weekly to troubleshoot issues proactively and address questions related to study protocols.
- Assign fielding responsibilities for randomly sampled facilities each month, accounting for fielders’ workloads and prior contacts.
- Carry out monthly direct outreach and recruitment for select abortion providing facilities.
- Work closely with project principal and project manager to oversee budget and staffing needs related to fieldwork and participant remuneration.
- Manage and approve remunerations to participants providing data.
- Maintain the highest standard of quality control and adherence to all confidentiality procedures.
- Perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned by the project principal.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two to three year’s relevant work experience in collecting or managing data from health care facilities providing sexual and reproductive health care services in the United States.
- Demonstrated ability to schedule, coordinate and oversee work of a team; train and supervise junior staff in implementing project work; and liaise with, and professionally manage communication with external contacts, including abortion providers, family planning clinic administrators, collaborators and/or organizations.
- Strong capability to anticipate project needs and potential challenges, with proactive approach to addressing them. Must possess excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with database management and other relevant software is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Must have robust organizational and management capabilities, ensuring project efficiency and high productivity.
- High level of professionalism required, with the ability to maintain discretion and handle confidential information sensitively and securely.
Salary and benefits
Salary starting at $89,092 to $133,638 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits that include medical, dental, vision and life insurance; vacation, personal and sick time, paid parental leave; tuition reimbursement; commuting subsidy; and 401(k) with employer match. The range for this position is specific to New York and DC, however base pay may vary depending on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skill sets, and training.
