Healthy Sexuality: Relationships, Intimacy and Sexual Behavior

Our Healthy Sexuality Program addresses relationships, intimacy and sexual behavior, with the goal of convincing key decision makers to acknowledge the universality of sexual relationships and understand the societal benefits of empowering people to have healthy and satisfying sexual relationships. To reach this goal, we conduct research, policy analysis and public education activities on preventing and treating sexually transmitted infections, including HIV; assessing the specific sexual and reproductive health needs of men; and examining the effects of social, economic and political contexts upon sexual relationships.

Highlights

“In Their Own Right: Addressing Young Men’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Needs,” a roundtable discussion organized by the Guttmacher Institute, attracted more than 50 health care providers, researchers, advocates, and sexuality educators to discuss the sexual health needs and challenges confronting young men. Among the topics addressed were healthy relationships, definitions of masculinity, unplanned fatherhood and disease prevention.

Laura Lindberg, senior research associate with the Guttmacher Institute, presented new research on young men’s sexuality; David Bell, medical director of the Young Men’s Clinic at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and Wayne Pawlowski, an independent sexuality consultant and trainer, discussed their experiences working with male adolescents. Talcott Camp, deputy director of the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project, served as moderator.
