Board of Directors' Statement on Leadership Transition

Jonathan Wittenberg named Acting CEO

“Today, the Board of Directors announces the transition of Dr. Herminia Palacio from her role as President & CEO of the Guttmacher Institute, effective immediately. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Palacio for the contributions she has made to the organization over the past four years, during which the Guttmacher Institute developed a new strategic framework to better meet the challenges facing reproductive health, rights, and justice–from the global pandemic to the overturning of Roe v Wade.

Effective immediately, Jonathan Wittenberg, currently Executive Vice President, will assume the role of Acting CEO. Jonathan has been with the Institute for 18 years, overseeing a period of major growth in the organization’s staff and budget. As our country faces a challenging landscape in the wake of Dobbs, and as access to reproductive health care remains under constant threat both here and around the world, the Board and Guttmacher Institute staff remain committed to our mission of advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights in the U.S. and globally. As we work to restore and expand access to care, we remain steadfast in our efforts to ensure that policies are based on the best evidence.”
